Who Will Write Our History is a reenactment of events in the Warsaw Ghetto between 1939-40, after the Nazis invaded Poland, the Warsaw Ghetto’s tragic destruction in 1944-45, and the ruins that remained when the Russians liberated Warsaw. Community leaders collected eyewitness accounts as these events occurred and buried them (stored in milk containers and metal boxes) hoping that the archive would survive the war, even if they did not. It took years to recover the archive of 30,000 pages, which now forms an important source of information about the Holocaust.

We are fortunate to have an eminent scholar and researcher, Jonathan Brent, Executive Director and CEO of The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research in NYC facilitating the question and answer period. YIVO is the world’s premier academic institute devoted to teaching and the study of East European Jewish history, language and culture. It has the most comprehensive archive of the modern Jewish experience outside of Israel. Brent will present an introduction to YIVO’s efforts as it relates to the film and facilitate the question and answer period.
